The People Behind the Mission

Meet the team guiding thirteen years of leadership development and menstrual equity work across the U.S. and West Africa.

Hananatu Tunis (Hana) founded One Million Girls thirteen years ago with a simple belief: every girl deserves the confidence, voice, and resources to lead. Since then, she has guided the organization's growth from a single pads distribution and self-esteem workshop in Liberia to programming that spans the U.S. and West Africa—including the flagship SpeakHER Power leadership program and The P.A.D.S. Project, our menstrual health equity initiative.

A proud descendant of Liberia and Sierra Leone, Hana is the daughter of parents who came to the U.S. in search of better opportunity. She believes in access for all girls, regardless of their geographic location or circumstances — and her mission is to help girls break every barrier standing in their way, boldly pursue their dreams, and never be afraid to speak fearlessly.

A St. John's University alumna, Hana has spent ten years in youth development, supporting international youth as well as homeless and runaway youth in New York City.
